Laylight
Designer: Hoad&More
A bespoke installation for a high-end residential property in central London. This lighting feature was crafted from a single piece of aluminium that was milled for 10 days before receiving its finishes. The fabricator proposed an ACP7 alloy which is used for applications which require high mechanical properties in combination with good machinability.
As is often the case with aluminium structures, deflections were the design drivers, rather than stresses. We were provided the weight of the chandelier that was to be suspended from the center by the designers. We were able to draw the bespoke section shape and import the designers geometry into an analysis software to perform the necessary design checks and ensure the piece is a secure and lasting structure
