Hurst Road

Architects: Great West design

This was a design-led refurbishment and extension to a fully detached property in Surrey. The works included a full-width rear extension, a mansard loft conversion and a timber outbuilding.

The project was characterized by the large open space created between the existing ground floor and extension supported by a steel frame. The extension’s façade was fully glazed and the flat roof included a roof lantern, allowing ample amount of natural light into the main living space. On the clients request the steelwork was accentuated and expressed throughout the project and tied into the original masonry structure to give the space a contemporary industrial aesthetic. The outbuilding was a lightweight timber frame and accommodated a gym, sauna and study.
